Engineer Denver, CO Rocky Mountain Public Media, Inc. (RMPM) is the
parent company of Rocky Mountain PBS, KUVO Jazz, and The Drop. Over

learning opportunities every month. The Sr. Broadcast and Digital
Media Engineer supports Rocky Mountain Public Media (RMPM) by
installing, maintaining, and repairing broadcast, radio, and IT
systems across platforms. This role ensures the reliability of
on-air signals and transmission chains, troubleshoots technical
issues, and collaborates with leadership and cross-functional teams
to provide comprehensive technical support. This position includes
people management responsibilities for engineering staff and
requires expertise in video streaming engineering technologies with
a commitment to professional development and continued learning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Technical Operations and
Broadcast Systems Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain broadcast,
production, and master control systems, including primary/backup
transmission chains and Technical Core infrastructure (satellite
receivers, routers, encoders, etc.). Operate, configure, and
support PMM Joint Master Control systems and remote access tools.
Perform installations, upgrades, cabling, and system configurations
for Technical Core and broadcast environments. Respond to on-air
outages and equipment failures; participates in on-call rotation
with other Technology staff. Monitor and troubleshoot OTT and web
video streams. Support RF systems, transmitters, STL, ICR, and
contribution paths. Maintains EAS and transmitter logs per FCC
regulations. Update software/firmware and maintain documentation of
technical systems, signal paths, and broadcast logs. Act as Chief
Operator per FCC requirements; assist in preparing and submitting
FCC reports and documentation. Video Streaming Engineering Design,
deploy, and optimize video streaming platforms and delivery systems
for OTT, web, and mobile applications. Implement and manage
adaptive bitrate encoding, CDN integrations, and streaming
protocols (HLS, DASH, RTMP). Monitor and troubleshoot OTT and web
video streams; analyze quality metrics, buffering rates, and viewer
experience. Stay current with emerging streaming technologies,
codecs, and best practices in digital video delivery. People
Management and Leadership Provide direct supervision, coaching and
mentoring to junior engineers and technical staff. Conduct
performance reviews, set goals, and develop professional
development plans for team members. Manage team work scheduling,
project assignments, and resource allocation to ensure optimal
department operations. Train new staff, participate in hiring
panels, and assist with department administration. Collaboration
and Project Management Collaborates on system design, purchasing,
implementation, budgeting, and vendor coordination. Collaborate
with IT on LAN/WAN, networking, firewall, and Active Directory
support. Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and verify
system performance. Maintain high standards of professionalism,
detail orientation, and team collaboration. Professional
Development Pursue ongoing professional development through
industry training, certifications, conferences, and staying current
with emerging broadcast and streaming technologies. Demonstrate
commitment to continued learning and advancement in both
traditional broadcast and modern streaming disciplines. Additional
Responsibilities Perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum
Qualifications of Position Extensive Technical Experience : Minimum
of 5–7 years of hands-on experience in broadcast engineering,
including master control, RF transmission, IP-based workflows, and
digital video/audio systems. Strong Knowledge of Broadcast
Standards : In-depth understanding of ATSC standards, SDI/ASI/IP/RF
signal flows, MPEG transport streams, PSIP configuration, and FCC
regulatory requirements. Video Streaming Expertise: Advanced
knowledge of video streaming architectures, encoding formats,
streaming protocols, CDN integration, and OTT platform deployment.
IT and Networking Proficiency : Experience with networking
technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs), systems administration,
firewalls, Active Directory, and broadcast IT convergence (e.g.,
Dante, NDI, SMPTE 2110). RF Technology Familiarity : General
knowledge of RF systems, transmitters, antennas, and propagation
principles for broadcast television and radio transmission.
Problem-Solving and Diagnostic Skills : Proven ability to
troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across multiple
platforms (broadcast, RF, OTT, and IT) using diagnostic tools and
software. Project Management and Communication : Demonstrated
ability to manage projects, coordinate with cross-functional teams,
and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical
stakeholders. Commitment to Continued Learning : Demonstrated track
record of pursuing professional development, obtaining industry
certifications, and staying current with emerging broadcast and
streaming technologies. Education and Certifications : Bachelor's
degree in electrical engineering, Broadcast Technology, or related
field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Industry certifications (e.g., SBE, Cisco, AWS, CompTIA) are a
strong plus. ADDITIONAL Qualifications of Position Must be able to
work both independently and as a collaborative and productive team
member. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to
work professionally and productively with persons at all levels.
Must possess exceptional time management, decision-making, and
organizational skills. Must be detail-oriented with an ability to
manage several projects simultaneously. Must have a demonstrated
ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work within
established budgets. Must possess a valid driver's license and an
acceptable MVR; must be insurable for driving station vehicles.

Compensation Our salary ranges are designed to be competitive for
our size and industry and are one part of our overall compensation
package, which includes benefits. Final compensation is based on
qualifications, relevant experience, skillset, and internal equity.

offers typically fall near the midpoint of the range. Work
Environment This position works primarily in office, studio,
editing, and/or field environments. This position must be able to
work a flexible schedule with occasionally long hours, including
