Job Summary:
The Department of Psychiatry has an opening for two full-time (1.0)
Clinical Social Workers within the Functional Neurological
Disorders Clinic at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.

DEPARTMENT VISION: CU Department of Psychiatry sets the standard

Nature of Work
The Clinical Social Worker will be faculty of the Department of
Psychiatry, integrated within the Department of Neurology,
Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) Program. The FND Program is
an outpatient, multidisciplinary treatment program comprised of
neurologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, case managers,
allied health professionals and administrative staff. The FND
Program boasts local, national, and international recognition for
their highly collaborative, innovative care model to support
individuals with FND. This position will have the opportunity to
participate in and/or lead clinical research, quality, and process
improvement initiatives in addition to their clinical work.
About the Functional Neurology Program: The FND Program is located
in the UCHealth Hospital Outpatient Pavilion on the University of
Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The service
line began in 2016 and has since treated over 2,000 patients.
Previously, the FND Clinic has only served individuals with
functional seizures (psychogenic non-epileptic seizures) but
recently received funding to expand their operations to care for
individuals with functional movement symptoms.
Treatment is delivered using a hybrid model, including both virtual
and in-person appointments. As a member of an academic medical
center, this position will support both a clinical and academic
mission and will have the opportunity to participate in quality
improvement and clinical research initiatives. Further, the
position will have the opportunity to improve UCHealth, University
of Colorado and greater community's knowledge of FND through
educational initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
Patient care and coordination: The primary role of the Clinical
Social Worker is to perform direct patient/client care both
virtually and in-person including behavioral health assessments,
follow-up appointments, group therapy, multi-family group therapy,
coordination with relevant outside care providers and other local
resources as needed, charting, billing and development of treatment
plans in addition to provision of services. This includes
determination of appropriate therapeutic treatment options within
and outside the FND Program.
Budget/Resource Management: Informs FND Program Director and
Business Manager of behavioral health service line budgetary and
resource needs.
Community Engagement/Education: Collaborates with FND Program
faculty and staff to support or conduct local and national
educational engagement activities and initiatives. This includes
but is not limited to, community educational webinars, development
of educational materials, etc.
Quality and Process Improvement: Informs and participates in
quality and process improvement initiatives at the direction of the
FND Program Director in collaboration with the Clinical Director of
Behavioral Health Services.
Compliance and Reporting: Maintain compliance with Department of
Psychiatry, Department of Neurology, University, state, and federal
regulation regarding psychiatric and behavioral health services.
Responsible for reporting clinical staff concerns to Director and
work collaboratively to resolve issues.
Behavioral Health Trainee Programming: Participates in behavioral
health trainee programming which includes but is not limited to,
supervision of clinical learners with relevant licensure (i.e.,
LCSW, MSW), note review and sign off, assists FND Program faculty
and staff with growing educational programming to meet academic
mission. This may include trainee evaluation, field liaison
meetings and classroom teaching (didactics) as needed. Collaborates
with FND Program Director, Business Manager. Clinical Director of
Behavioral Health Services, and other relevant team members on the
development, maintenance, and monitoring of clinical behavioral
health trainee programming. Responsible for ensuring trainees under
their supervision are exhibiting high quality, safe and
professional practices. Reports any unprofessional or unsafe
behaviors to the Clinical Director of Behavioral Health
Services.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Academic Rank and Licensure: This position begins at the academic
rank of Instructor. They are required to be a CU School of Medicine
and UCHealth Hospital medical staff. Colorado medical license and
Board Certification in General Psychiatry are required. Additional
licensures and certifications are required at discretion of FND
Program Medical Director relevant to clinical program expansion and
leadership duties (e.g., Wyoming license).
FTE: The current distribution of effort is 1.0 FTE which includes
30 hours of clinical time and 4 hours of administrative/supervision
time per week (total 40 hours). Clinical time includes direct
patient care. Administrative time includes but is not limited to
coordination of care, educational activities, scholarly work, and
supervision of trainees.

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of rotating
between working from home and as needed for in-person meetings The
current distribution of effort is 1.0 FTE which includes clinical
time and administrative/supervision time per week (total 40 hours).

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has
been established as HIRING RANGE:
Instructor: $60,000 to $72,000.
Sr. Instructor: $60,000 to $72,000.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Provide initial evaluations together with ongoing treatment.
Provide clinical diagnosis utilizing biopsychosocial assessments,
coordinating with other mental health staff or medical staff when
diagnostically appropriate.
Provide therapeutic interventions, resourcing, and
psychoeducation.
Return phone calls or emails from faculty and staff patients.
Chart patient visits using an electronic medical record.
Triage and refer patients as needed to providers who can offer an
appropriate level of care.
Must be proficient in common psychotherapeutic techniques including
but not limited to, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical
behavioral therapy, acceptance, and commitment therapy, etc.
Must have experience in risk assessment, including suicide and
violence risk assessment.
Must have knowledge of identifying and navigating community
resources to supplement therapeutic work.
Must be able to work cooperatively with all constituencies in the
UCHealth Hospital, Department of Psychiatry, and Department of
Neurology including Departmental Chair(s), Program Directors, and
administrative staff.
Should be proactive in learning, development, and
problem-solving.
Participate in quality- and performance-assessment projects.
